Elderly woman in wheelchair injured in balcony collapse

AN ELDERLY wheelchair-bound woman was among five people injured when a balcony collapsed in north Nowra on Saturday night.

It is understood the second-storey veranda collapsed under the pressure of between 20 and 25 people, during a party.

New South Wales Police reported a 63-year-old wheelchair bound woman suffered facial fractures and a two-year-old boy were among those injured.

A 31-year-old woman's arm was broken and two other women, aged 41 and 25 also had possible spinal injuries from the collapse.

Police reported while the injuries were serious, none appeared to be life-threatening, with all those injured taken to Shoalhaven Hospital.

The elderly woman was then flown to St George Hospital for further medical treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause.
