Homicide detectives reveal execution was caught on camera

Almost two years after 40-year-old Daniel Vella was gunned down in the main studio of the Pretty In Ink tattoo parlour in West Ryde, police have released chilling images of his final moments.

The footage shows two men, both with their faces covered by hoods and bandanas, walking in via the rear entrance.

One of the men points a handgun at Mr Vella before firing five shots.

The men, who can be seen fleeing through the rear door and onto Gaza Rd, have not been found.

On the night of the shooting, another two other tattooists and three clients were in the studio.

They managed to escape uninjured.

Mr Vella ran out of the shop before collapsing onto a footpath.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Royal North Shore Hospital.

Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Angelo Memmolo said detectives and Mr Vella's family still didn't know why he was "ruthlessly killed".

He said Mr Vella's loved one's would be able to find closure until the people responsible were brought to justice and called for anyone with information to come forward.

The men depicted in the CCTV are both heavily disguised.

The armed man appears to be wearing a grey hooded-jumper, blue tracksuit pants with three stripes down the side, athletic shoes and pink gloves.

The second man appears to be wearing a grey hooded-jumper, light-coloured pants and white shoes.

Anyone with information can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
