National campaign against CSG gains 80,000 supporters

A NATIONAL campaign against coal seam gas has now gained more than 80,000 supporters, launching an interactive map showing wells and incidents across the country.

The GetUp campaign recently launched the new map to highlight the stories of those opposed to the growing industry.

It shows videos of local landholders and others opposed to the industry, but also highlights the small number of reported incidents on wells through the country.

The map illustrates state government data from New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.

It reveals more than 4200 wells have been dug in Queensland, with only six incidents, while NSW had 485 wells and nine incidents listed.

The online campaign, which started some months ago with an online petition, has also received more than 97,000 "likes" on Facebook.
