New nuclear waste dump site announced

A REMOTE property in South Australia will likely house the Turnbull government's proposed nuclear waste facility following the government's decision to effectively rule out locating it in other states.

Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg announced the likely site, close to Barndioota near the Flinders Ranges, after the Queensland Government opposed a site near Oman Ama.

The government, which will start talks with indigenous landholders and the local community, is yet to make a final decision on which of the six potential sites it will use.
