New website brings mental health resources to rural areas
THE founder of a new mental health website said if it helped one person in a regional or rural area who might be struggling then the hard work was worth it.
The website, News in Mind, was launched on Wednesday (Oct 30) in Brisbane and is the brainchild of Daniel and Kylie Hobbs.
Mr Hobbs told more than 100 people who attended the launch he was inspired to make a difference after the death of a childhood friend.
"Mental health does not discriminate and nor should we," he said.
"Mental health affects one in four Queenslanders.
"Normally people with mental heath are ostracised and marginalised."
Health Minister Lawrence Springborg said more could be done to help people who live with mental health concerns.
"I think we can do a lot more than we are currently doing," he said.
"The statistics are very scary.
"We want Queenslanders to know it is okay to seek help.
"Collectively we need to take our support to a whole new level and this website goes along way to achieving that."
