School teacher jailed for sleeping with her student

A NSW school teacher, who had sex with her 15-year-old student because she needed to "feel loved", has been jailed for at least a year.

The 51-year-old disgraced maths teacher, who cannot be named, developed a sexual relationship with a boy after offering him lifts home and private tutoring lessons in 2008.

The court heard the encounters began with the woman allowing the boy to touch her breasts and progressed to sexual intercourse at their homes, a school storage room and her car.

The teacher was arrested and immediately pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated sexual assault.

According to the Herald, she cried throughout her sentencing hearing last week, telling the court her judgement was impaired by "this huge need to feel loved".

Judge Colin Charteris accepted the woman was deeply remorseful and that she had already suffered the loss of her career.

He also said that while the teenage victim may have appeared to "welcome" the encounters, he was under the age of consent and children were not sent to NSW schools to become "sexual opportunities" for their teachers.

The woman was sentenced to two years and three months jail.

She will be eligible for parole next August.
