Warner fails to end Thunder's epic losing streak

NOT even Australia's red-hot swashbuckling opener David Warner could end Sydney Thunder's horrific 14-game Big Bash League losing streak - and now the team has to try and do it without him later this week.

The Thunder's six-wicket loss in the opener against cross-town rival, the Sixers, at the SCG, ended any hopes of the two-time wooden spooners starting with a win under new captain Mike Hussey.

Warner (50 off 31) shared a 116-run opening partnership with Usman Khawaja (66 off 51 balls), but it seems Hussey won't have either in his side for the clash with the Adelaide Strikers at ANZ Stadium on Friday.

Warner will be on Test duty at the MCG, while Khawaja is battling a hamstring injury. Who will replace them?

Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan is due to arrive in time for the Thunder's third match, so opener Daniel Hughes could come in, while Hussey could make the move from three.
