A cultural opportunity

AGAINST a backdrop of bush and ocean at Corindi Beach, the Burwarrinyin Women's Gathering is offering an opportunity for women to immerse themselves in Aboriginal culture.

The two-day spiritual and cultural retreat in September is hosted by women of the Gumbaynggirr nation.

The retreat is designed to share Aboriginal culture with non-Indigenous women and to give Indigenous women a chance to reconnect with their culture.

Activities include a traditional smoking ceremony, storytelling, bush tucker and medicine, music, body painting, dance, art, pottery and a special women's business forum.

"Pivotal to the retreat is the presence of the elders," said organiser Sally Wilson.

The retreat will be held at the Yarrawarra Aboriginal Culture Centre at Corindi Beach on September 15 and 16.
