A nurturing offer for ABC
WHEN Wagga Wagga couple Geoff and Jan Hamilton heard a number of ABC Learning childcare centres were under review last year, they decided to see if they could help.
Now, five months after 241 ABC childcare centres were put up for sale, the Hamilton's are the new owners of 22 new centres, including the former ABC Grafton North in Arthur Street.
The new centres are to be called NurtureOne.
Mr Hamilton said he and his wife had been interested in providing quality childcare in regional areas since moving back to his home town of Wagga Wagga in the early 1990s.
“We have 15 years of experience in regional areas and felt we could offer something other people couldn't,” he said.
Mr Hamilton said he understood Grafton parents and staff would want to know more about the company and wanted to reassure them it would be 'business as usual' for the childcare centre.
“All staff will be offered continued employment with us with the same entitlements,” he said.
Although Grafton North was considered unviable under the ABC Learning business model, Mr Hamilton said NurtureOne was a small business with a different structure from ABC.
“We will be visiting regularly,” he said.
“We believe in providing resources and training staff well and giving them the support they need to do their job.”
He said he expected to hire more local childcare staff in the future as more residents looked for childcare options in the area.
