Absent thief found guilty

A WARRANT has been issued for Noel Andrew Gibson for the theft of more than $5000 worth of mobile phones from a Yamba mobile phone shop in mid 2010.

Gibson was arrested on July 27, 2010, after an investigation involving searches of his associates’ car and other known premises unearthed several of the stolen phones.

Gibson, who held various addresses in the Clarence Valley including Yamba and South Grafton before his arrest, was last seen by authorities at the alcohol and other drug rehabilitation centre, Oolong House, Nowra, in early March.

He was found guilty in his absence on Monday at Grafton Local Court of a total of 16 charges relating to the break and enter of the Yamba Shopping Fair premises on June 16, 2010.

Police used CCTV footage to identify Gibson and at least two others at the scene about 6.55am that day.

Police facts tendered to the court said Gibson climbed into the roof cavity above the centre’s public disabled toilets and lowered himself into the mobile phone shop’s storeroom.

He then gathered the phones and used the same path for his escape.
