Acid-tongue writing works for Betoota Advocate

THIS book throws more punches than Tyson, Holyfield and Pacquiao put together.

If you're not aware of The Betoota Advocate yet then you definitely should be. Forget The Onion, the 'Toota is some of the most acid-tongued, on-the-money satire/commentary you'll come across. It's intended as satire but, sadly, is far too accurate to be considered completely comical.

The two main men, Clancy Overell and Errol Parker have an innate ability to put in words exactly what thousands of us are thinking at any given moment on any given topic. The Round-Up is a compilation of the greatest hits from the self-proclaimed oldest newspaper in the country.

From politics to pingers, the material base is broad and full of more zingers than Bill Shorten in a KFC drive-thru. The lads claim to be from Queensland's Channel Country, but there's hot sauce on the lads being uni drop-outs from inner Sydney. Regardless of their origins, they're making massive waves in this country. Their online readership is evidence enough of that.

Their political connections are also impressive. From Bob Katter to Barnaby Joyce to Clive Palmer, the fellas have clawed their way into the corridors of power through simply taking aim at all and sundry. Even the ABC has been unable to resist.

If you're a bit full of yourself, highly strung, too serious or too conservative in your political views it's best you steer clear of this book. Or better yet, take a read. If you find yourself thinking you sound a lot like one of the subjects of a particular 'story' it may just be the wake-up call you need.

If nothing else, this book is worth a read as a study in the tightrope of defamation cases. As a huge fan of their work these boys were never getting anything other than 11/10. Do yourself a favour and enjoy some of the most acerbic wit being published in this country at present.

Keep an eye out for the feature piece on Barnaby Joyce, the glass-munching, Tooheys New-swilling Deputy PM is given the royal treatment while Caboolture cops more than its fair share of well-deserved Channel Country vitriol. It's relentless, raucous and ruthless.

Keep shooting straight fellas.

Love your work and long live the Advocate.
