Additional beds allocated for aged care facilities
THE Whiddon Group will receive an additional 12 aged care residential places after federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan announced more than $3.6 million of ongoing funding.
The funding will provide a total of 77 aged home care places and 14 new residential age care beds across the Northern Rivers.
"This ongoing funding will help meet demand for quality aged care services in the Northern Rivers and have the additional benefit of creating more jobs in the sector," Mr Hogan said.
"The government believes older Australians want and deserve to have the support and care they need to live active and healthy lives, and to continue to choose the aged care services they need."
The new funding is on top of the increase of more than $5.6 million of ongoing funding that Mr Hogan has already secured for aged care beds and places across the Northern Rivers.
Research by RDA Northern Rivers shows the region has a higher than state-average proportion of the population over the age of 60.
The Northern Rivers proportion is 23%, above that of the state average at 17%.
