Adelaide progresses to home clash with Sydney

DEFENDING champions Adelaide will host Sydney FC in the next round of the FFA Cup after the completion of matches in the round of 32.

The only other all A-League match-up will see Melbourne City at home to Wellington Phoenix.

The Phoenix earned its place in the last 16 with a 1-0 win over Central Coast in Gosford on Tuesday night.

New Mariners coach Tony Walmsley was unhappy with the result, which came after a missed penalty and a howler by debutant keeper Paul Izzo.

"I'm just a bit disappointed that so many people turned up and we couldn't get a result," Walmsley said.

Western Sydney Wanderers booked their place in the round of 16 for the first time after a 1-0 victory at home against Brisbane Roar.

Brisbane had the better of the first half, but a goal from Golgol Mebrahtu midway through the second period was enough to get Wanderers the win.

ROUND OF 16 (home teams first): Adelaide United v Sydney FC, Melbourne City v Wellington Phoenix, Heidelberg United v Sydney United 58, Hume City v Sydney Olympic, MetroStars v Oakleigh Cannons, Lions FC v Perth Glory, Rockdale City Suns v Melbourne Victory, Palm Beach Sharks v Western Sydney Wanderers.

The dates and venues have yet to be announced.
