Gold Coast Suns’ momentum takes another hit

Gold Coast Suns' bid to get their season back on track has been dealt a blow with two more defenders on the sidelines for the Q-Clash with Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday week.

The Suns have a rest this week in a split round but a hamstring injury to Kade Kolodjashnij and suspension for Tom Murphy have hampered coach Guy McKenna's plans.

Kolodjashnij is set to miss a few games, while Murphy was offered a one-match suspension by the AFL's Match Review Panel for kneeing Western Bulldog Jake Stringer during the fourth quarter of Saturday's defeat at Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns.

Add to that the absence of another defender Trent McKenzie (hamstring) and the Suns are struggling for key backmen.

Murphy was charged with a level two misconduct (kneeing) offence (225 points), with his action ruled to be intentional, low impact and involving body contact.

Teammate Greg Broughton can accept a $900 fine for wrestling Nathan Hrovat.
