All-clear for bashed pup soon?
A PUPPY found clinging to life in a pile of garbage at the Woodenbong tip may be about to get the all-clear.
But, despite a $1000 reward posted by animal welfare group Australians for Animals, authorities have not found the person who bashed the dog and dumped it in a garbage bin somewhere on the garbage run between Mummulgum and Woodenbong in December.
RSPCA regional inspector Alistair Hills said he expected to meet with the vet caring for the dog today to review its condition.
Where only a few months ago, those reviews focused on whether the animal would have to be put down, they are now focused on how close the puppy is to being able to be put up for adoption.
However, he said the attack on the puppy remained a mystery.
"No-one has been able to give us any information about where it came from at all," he said.
Australians for Animals convenor Sue Arnold, who posted the $1000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the puppy-basher, said she had been given information about who bashed the puppy and when, but without a direct witness there was no chance of securing a conviction.
