School bomb threat originated overseas: Police

UPDATE:  Ipswich police were called in as Amberley District State School was evacuated following a bomb threat today.

The QT understands the threat was made via phone just before midday.

Students were ushered to streets nearby as police blocked off Deebing Creek Rd.

Police told the QT they were still checking the school grounds but students were allowed to return to certain areas of the school before 2pm.

The school was completely cleared a short time later.

The bomb threat was one of several made against schools across the nation over the past two weeks.

It is understood the call, like others, originated from overseas. Other schools to receive bomb threats yesterday included Calamvale Community College, Caboolture State High School and Noosaville State School.

The latest incidents took the number of confirmed bomb threats this week to 22.

A Department of Education spokesman said they were working with police to ensure all students and staff were safe.
