LETTER OF THE DAY: We need to take animal cruelty seriously

WHAT moral justification could one get from shooting a kangaroo in the head and leaving him to die an excruciating death?

What a cowardly act, and obviously shot by someone or persons who believe that our non-human animals are of no moral value and wholly without meaning.

IF YOU MISSED IT: RSPCA VOW TO FIND ROO ARROW ATTACKER

Animal welfare standards need to be improved within Australia, and cases such as this need to be taken very seriously.

This is not an isolated case and these appalling acts sicken me each and every day.

But is it any wonder we are seeing an increase in these acts of barbarity, we have an antiquated judicial system that deals with a large majority of animal cruelty cases with a mere slap on the wrist.

It's a well-known fact the RSPCA is owed thousands in unpaid fines dating back over 15 years.

In addition to a government that supports the unacceptable culling of these magnificent animals declaring our kangaroos are over populated, when in reality, this culling exists for commercial reasons, serving only those directly involved.
