Announcer talks up park’s new box

THE addition of an announcers' box has further improved the already impressive infrastructure at Hawthorne Park.

Stephen Myhill was one of the announcers at the Big River Campdraft on the weekend and said the new building would be a great asset.

"It's a lot more spectator-friendly. It doesn't intrude on the view of the camp," he said.

"And they certainly spoiled us announcers while they were doing it."

Mr Myhill has been announcing at the Big River Campdraft and its Stockman's Challenge for five years and said he wouldn't miss the old announcers' box.

"Me and Johnny Green have been there for years and as far as us announcers are concerned, it's a great improvement.

"The old one was hard to get into - there was a little ladder up the wall which we had to climb up and down," he said.

The finishing touches were added to the building on the night before the campdraft, and Mr Myhill said the committee was also very pleased with the new office space.

"Facility-wise, they've got a good set-up there at Hawthorne Park," he said.

The new announcers' box was funded by the Community Building Partnership program that gives infrastructure boosts to community facilities.
