$8.5m make over complete

THE $8.5million make over of the Harwood Bridge is complete.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Roads, Eric Roozendaal, made the announcement late last week.

Mr Roozendaal said the project, which had taken more than a year, had been completed on time. Access to the bridge will no longer be restricted.

"The pedestrian walkway/cycleway which was restricted at times during the work due to safety reasons will now operate as normal," Mr Roozendaal said.

"This project included the removal of the existing paint and the application of new coats to the approach spans, the hand and barrier rails, as well as patches on the truss span."

Mr Roozendaal said the work was completed in a contained scaffold to ensure the environment did not suffer.

"The significant repainting is important for the long-term strength and protection of the steel framework," he said.

The repainting project was funded by the Carr Government through in the increased toll on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, in- troduced in 2002.
