A dream gathering

THE 14th annual NSW Women's Gathering in Grafton from October 20-22 is shaping as an exciting event with a broad range of guest speakers, workshops and tours.

A group of women is meeting on a fortnightly basis to co-ordinate planning for the gathering, which is expected to attract up to 300 women and partners.

Gathering convenor Vicki St Lawrence said it was exciting that Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal women were working together using the theme, Big River Dreaming.

"The theme is to show what a unique and wonderful place we have in terms of clever people, culture, and the environment," she said.

However, Ms St Lawrence said the co-ordination group still needed more women to help organise some components of the gathering.

"For example, we need someone with data entry skills to volunteer their time when the registrations start to come in," she said. "There is a range of other tasks that emerge as the planning continues and many are simple, but take time."

The gathering also is seeking additional sponsors and people who would like to present a workshop.

Main sponsors are the NSW Department of Primary Industries, which is the platinum sponsor at $15,000, and North Coast Institute of TAFE, which is a diamond sponsor. More information is available from a website currently under construction at www.womensgathering2006.org.au and Ms St Lawrence can be contacted on 66429742 or by email on victoria@stlawrenceconsulting.com.au
