A musical marvel

SOME people like to say that when you're on to a good thing stick with it, but talented musician Michelle Ryan seems to think otherwise.

Last month the 14-year-old took home a swag of awards by winning the junior championships in the flute and piano sections at the Grafton Eisteddfod.

It was an impressive achievement that required her to learn nearly 15 separate pieces of music for the performances.

But when she was invited to begin a scholarship at the Clarence Valley Conservatorium last year, it was voice training that took her fancy.

By her comparatively high standards, Michelle missed out on a first in the eisteddfod's junior singing section, achieving fourth place.

But with a year of voice training ahead, Michelle has promised she will be back next year looking for that elusive first place in singing to make it three championships.
