A quick fix for singles

SPENDING weekend after weekend alone at home watching videos while your friends are happily partnered can be a lonely experience.

But two Clarence Valley women have decided to help -? they are bringing speed dating to town.

Suzanne Lynch and Melanie Shanahan, both in relationships themselves, have devised 'Dinner Dates', which will run at the Naked Bean Cafe in South Grafton on December 1 from 6pm.

"We both have a lot of single friends and they often lament the fact that there's such a lack of suitable partners," Ms Lynch said.

"There are a lot of fantastic single people and we were wondering why these people aren't meeting up, so this is a way for them to do that in a relaxed atmosphere."

After an initial 'meet and greet', seven males and seven females will be paired up at tables. Following 10 minutes of talking and getting to know the other person, the men will move along to the next table. Each time a new course of finger food will be served.

"It could be difficult for some people ... and would take them out of their comfort zone. But that's why it would be great if they could get a couple of friends together and come along," she said.

"There will be fabulous live music, fantastic food in an intimate and funky setting and and there will be a structure to the evening to help people along who might be a bit nervous.

"We just hope people think 'what the heck' and come along to have some fun and hopefully meet some new people."

Anyone interested in going along can contact Melanie Shanahan on 6649 7041 or email kevinandmelanie@hotmail.com before November 26. The cost is $50 per person.
