WARDS at Grafton Base Hospital will be brightened after a water colour painting by renowned United States artist Linda Ruhl was presented to the hospital yesterday.

The floral painting was presented by the Artsfest Committee, which was given the painting by Ms Ruhl after her time as a tutor at this year's Artsfest.

Committee president Fay Boyd said the painting was to act as a memorial to Dr Carel van Gend, who died in June this year.

"(Ruhl) left the painting to Artsfest after the tutor's exhibition to do what we chose with it," she said.

"We chose to donate it to the hospital in memory of Dr van Gend, who was a foundation member of Artsfest."

Members of Dr van Gend's family attended the presentation and a morning tea.
