A week of winter swell

Yamba builder Simon Allard was waiting around for a brickie last week, so he grabbed his Nikon D70 digital camera and Sigma 50-500mm zoom lens, and headed for the points of Angourie.

Word was out that some epic surf was building from last Monday to Friday. More than 1800 images later, Allard, an experienced surfer, had captured most of it.

Gold Coast-based professional Joel Parkinson, emerging future pro Laurie Towner, also of Yamba, and a host of the Clarence Coast's best big-wave men, new and old, carved up eight to 10-foot waves.

This photo is of Towner screaming down the face at Spookys Point at 9.45am last Friday. Allard, who only rediscovered his passion for photography a few months ago, now is busy downloading and cataloguing a swell week.
