Alita follows in mum?s footsteps

ALITA Moloney hopes to win this year's Maclean Showgirl competition to carry on a long family tradition.

Her mother, Nola, is a previous winner, as are several aunties.

"I have always wanted to go in the competition," the 17-year-old told The Daily Examiner.

A Year 12 student at Catherine McAuley College in Grafton, Alita said the competition was important to her, and encouraged other girls to enter.

"This is a great way to represent the youth of Maclean," she said.

"I am going off to university next year so to win this would be a great way to keep this area close to my heart."

Alita is in the running to win prizes from Professionals Real Estate Maclean, Harvey Jewellers of Grafton, Mackellys Maclean, Stanford Pharmacy, Riverland Travel and Making Waves Hairdressers.

Maclean Showgirl co-ordinator Fay Johnson is hoping to emulate last year's success which led to six girls entering the competition. The title was won by Sarah Dwyer.

Those wishing to enter the Maclean Showgirl competition should contact Fay on 66451211.
