Anger taken out on the Yamba aged

By ADRIAN MILLER

VANDALS at Yamba have destroyed a fence behind Birrungan Lodge Retirement Village only hours after it was repaired following previous attacks.

The two-metre high 40-metre long corrugated fence, which runs along RSL Lane, has been ruined after vandals holed and dented the structure.

It will now have to be replaced, at a cost of hundreds of dollars.

One resident said it was not the first time the fence had been vandalised.

All attempts to stop damage had failed.

"Over the last 12 months it's happened four times, but this is by far the worst," he said.

"It's terrible when oldies can't live in peace in their own village."

Early yesterday morning, residents were awakened by the noise of vandals wrecking the fence.

One resident said the noise at that time of the morning was frightening.

"It frightened the life out of the lady on the corner and it made us jump as well," she said.

She ran outside and yelled at them to stop.

When confronted, they ran off.

Police were called.
