Anglers ?breaming? with confidence
By SALLY GORDON
AN all-star cast descended on Maclean yesterday to mark the start of the 2006 Ford Couriers Bream Series fishing competition.
Australian Fishing Championship TV show anglers Kris Hickson and Tim Morgan (aka Tim the Bream), arrived in the riverside town in preparation for the weekend event.
Lower River locals may also catch a glimpse of celebrity fishing commentator and writer Steve Starling and serial fish kisser Rex Hunt at one of the competition's weigh-ins.
The catch-and-release fishing competition officially kicks off today at 7am in Maclean at the public pontoon, adjacent to the River Street car park.
Almost 130 anglers have registered to compete in the bream challenge, the third such event to go ahead on the Clarence River.
Competitors will be randomly paired, two per boat and are only allowed to use artificial lures or flies.
Yesterday competitors headed out on the Clarence for a prefish, where entrants were able to get their bearings on the mighty Clarence and nut out some worthy fishing locations.
Anglers will compete between the hours of 7am and 2pm, giving them seven hours to reel in five of their biggest fish of the day. The weigh-in will be held in the Centenary Drive parklands behind the Maclean CBD between 2pm and 3.30pm.
