Another fine cricketing feat

By TONY WHITE

GLENREAGH resident Duncan McPherson contacted The Daily Examiner following our Wednesday story on Scott Davis taking five wickets from five balls in a first grade match for Lawrence at the weekend.

McPherson said his son Larry had also equalled the remarkable feat 'around 22 years ago'.

"Larry was about 16 at the time and took five wickets in successive balls during one over, four caught and one bowled," McPherson snr said.

"He was playing for Woolgoolga in a game against Upper Orara at Jetty Oval, Coffs Harbour."

McPherson wasn't sure, but suggested it was in either a second or third grade match.

"He just missed the sixth wicket too," McPherson said.

Incredibly McPherson snr pointed out his son was not even given a bowl in the second innings despite his outstanding first innings effort.

Larry McPherson, a leg spinner or 'Shane Warney' as McPherson snr said, had one other notable claim to fame.

"He clean bowled Australian player Greg Ritchie when he was in the area for a coaching clinic," McPherson said.
