WINNING TEAM: The delighted South Grafton High School Year 9/10 indoor cricket team returns with a NSW title.

THE South Grafton High School Year 9/10 girls indoor cricket emulated the Year 7/8 team by becoming NSW Country Champions in a finals tournament held at Maitland on Monday and Tuesday.

The team, led by Rebecca Kenny, progressed through the round robin section undefeated to progress through to the final.

In the final South High defeated St Peters Maitland, a private school, which has built up an enviable record in the sport.

Prior to the final four of our team were named in the Country Allstars team.

The girls, Alice Brown, Steffanee Colgrave, Leah Macdonald and Angela Payne thoroughly deserved the honour through their consistently high performances.

The improvement shown by Katie-Rae Murray and the energy displayed by Rebecca McPherson on and off the field was outstanding.

Charina Flaherty showed a cool head when in tight spots and captain Kenny was always the encourager in what was an outstanding team performance.

Special mention must go to Helen Payne for her efforts in coaching the team for the past month.
