Anzac Cup test for Bobcats

AFTER a wash out last weekend the Maclean Bowling Club Bobcats have a daunting task of opening their Anzac Cup soccer campaign against Lennox Head at Woodburn at 3pm tomorrow, with only one trial game under their belts.

The Bobcats have always treated the pre-season Anzac Cup competition as glorified trials, but with as many as five regular first graders still unavailable, this will be brought into the spotlight even more so this weekend.

New coach Steve O'Sullivan has been working tirelessly to fashion his new playing system with new personnel, and this weekend will provide him with an opportunity to see how far some of his younger players have come.

Premier League rookies like Broden Hirst and Renald Munro are likely to feature in the match, if not start, but it will be the core senior players that will need to lead the way to help ease the young players into the top grade.

Lennox Head blitzed the first division on the way to promotion last season and have recruited heavily over the summer after securing one of the most respected coaches on the Northern Rivers.

Many are predicting a big season from the Premier League newcomers this year, so the inexperienced Bobcats may have a difficult afternoon.
