Anzac win goes to St James

ST JAMES Primary School's Year 5 class in Yamba will celebrate this weekend after winning the Daily Examiner's $1000 Anzac Heroes competition.

Run across 13 APN Newspapers, the competition ran in conjunction with our Anzac tributes and was sponsored by Austar. Thirteen newspapers throughout APN gave away $1000 each, while a group-wide prize of an all expenses paid trip to Canberra was won by a primary school in Queensland.

St James Year 5 class teacher Joe Stewart said the money would go towards the end-of-year class trip to Lake Ainsworth, and they owed much to student Jack Berger.

"I didn't know about it until Jack brought in the tokens and information, but when he did I thought why not give it a go," he said. "We were ecstatic over winning it."

Jack Berger said he entered the competition to win the prize for the class.
