Arthur finds 100 reasons to party

AS he screeched into the Yamba Golf and Country Club on the back of a Harley Davidson to start the celebrations for his 100th birthday party, Arthur Newman was enjoying the ride so much he didn't want to get off.

Mr Newman, along with around 180 family and friends, partied the night away on Saturday in celebration of his achievement, 100 not out.

Organised by Arthur's son Neil, the party not only provided food and drink in abundance, but congratulatory messages from the Queen, the Governor-General and the Prime Minister. Mr Newman said it was a fantastic evening.

"It was terrific, really something out of this world," he said. "The golf club really opened up and it was wonderful."

And to round off the celebrations, Mr Newman passed his driving test yesterday, which allows him to keep his licence for another year.

Neil said his dad enjoyed himself immensely on the night and was grateful for all those who were in attendance.

"He thought it was all a bit of a fuss, but he had a great night and really enjoyed him- self," he said.
