Australia?s finest rug up in war-torn Iraq

THE men from 2 Troop, A Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, who are currently deployed in Southern Iraq, would like to thank the following ladies of St Catherine's Villa knitting group ? Sid Triggell, Mona Pearce, Jean Zuber, Joan Campbell, Marie Taylor, Flora Kratz, Jessie Martin and Nita Ward ? for their time and effort in the making of such thoughtful gifts.

When I received these blankets I informed my troop of the long hours spent by these women in their mid-80s and 90s, some suffering from arthritis, and that these gifts were their only way of showing their love and support for the Australian troops serving in a current war zone.

The men were taken aback and were surprised by the thoughts and efforts of these women whom they do not know, from a small country town in the Northern Rivers of NSW, any one of which could have been their grandmother. Again, from all of us who are so far from home and family, your thoughts and kindness are most welcomed and cherished.

Kindest regards,

LIEUTENANT L.T. DAWSON,

Troop Commander 2 Troop

A Squadron 2nd Cavalry Regiment.
