Back in the ring

BOXING is returning to the Grafton saleyards after a long break from the ring.

A program of bouts authorised by the Australian Amateur Boxing League will feature at the saleyards, now known as the regional livestock selling centre, on Saturday night.

More than 20 years ago, South Grafton man Jeff Hitman Harding stood tall within the saleyards and started his campaign to become a world champion.

Saturday night will feature a new breed of boxing, when local boys Kyle Hurricane Hands, Xavier Sullivan, Eddie Dobono, Ray Mercy and Steve Kirby take to the ring and strive to keep the Grafton dream alive.

The program will feature 10 amateur bouts between boxers from Grafton, Newcastle, Kempsey, Coffs Harbour and Ballina.

The tournament is promoted by Magnum Boxing Promotions, of Coffs Harbour in conjunction with the NSW Amateur Boxing League.

Organisers hope the program will help to re-establish boxing in the Grafton region and breed another world champion.

Gates open at 6pm with the first punches scheduled to be thrown at 7pm.

nFOR further details call Michael Magnay on 0401 650685 or Kyle Hands on 0418 925498. Ring Kyle for a free ticket ? the first four through will go free of charge.
