Banking on blood donors

'THANK you, and keep it coming'.

That's the message from organisers of yesterday's first blood donations in Maclean.

"We've really had an overwhelming response," Australian Red Cross Blood Bank community relations manager Susannah Rands said.

"There is a ratio of one in three people needing blood during their lifetime, but only one in 30 people donate."

The Red Cross Mobile Blood Bank has eight scheduled dates throughout the year and will be located at the Maclean Hospital on a trial basis.

"Basically we want to provide the people of the Clarence Valley with a chance to donate," she said.

"All they have to do is make an appointment on 131495."

Member for Clarence Steve Cansdell said the service would be back on February 27, April 24 and May 29.

"Bloody Monday in Maclean proved we are reliable donors and I am delighted the great people at the blood bank are going to come back and see us more often," Mr Cansdell said.
