Bernie?s Lion-hearted effort

Grafton Lions Club president Bernie Barron has been officially recognised for his untiring efforts.

He has been given notice of getting Lions' most prestigious award.

Former Lions district governor Nick Bennett travelled from Tamworth to present the award in Grafton last night but forgot to bring it with him. The Melvin Jones Fellowship award was to be presented to Mr Barron at a meeting attended by all Clarence Valley Lions clubs.

Mr Bennett said the award was rarely presented.

"It's given out very, very rarely. We've been going 56 years and there would be no more than 100 of them in Australia," he said.

Mr Barron said he was surprised by the honours.

He also is the recipient of the President Diamond Challenge award.
