SOUTH Grafton High School rugby league star Daniel Bligh secured his team's spot in the final of The Daily Examiner Shield with a brilliant solo try in the dying minutes of last night's round two game at McKittrick Park.
With the scores locked at 20-all and time almost up, Bligh picked up the ball from the base of the scrum and powered over near the corner to give his team the game 24-20.
Five minutes earlier it was McAuley's star Daniel Battersby who gave his team hope of a finals berth, scoring the second of his two tries for the night to bring the scores level at 20 apiece.
It was a close match throughout with South High leading 14-8 halftime.
McAuley outscored South 12-10 in the second half, but were only separated by Bligh's final burst.
Earlier in the Under-14s South High were too good for McAuley winning 28-12.
South's halfback Todd Cameron had an outstanding game guiding his team around the paddock as well as pulling off a couple of bone-rattling tackles.
