Bold and brassy

By JULIA ILES

MUSIC is the word at South Grafton Public School with 135 students taking part in their big, brassy band.

Indeed, as the band assembled on Thursday, one musician's tuba looked almost as big as him.

Other children held French horns, flutes, trumpets and two others laboured to carry a large xylophone.

Conductor Kris Edwards said the band, which started in 1996, was now a tradition at the school.

"We hope this will continue for years as students and their parents realise the value and joy associated with music," she said.
