Chamber bares all for nudie calendar

By Sally Gordon

Peter Nicholson, of Yamba's Nicholson Fine Foods, wants to cover Chioux Boutique's Sue Hughes' naked body in caviar.

Peter's father David wanted to know who they could commission to eat the caviar.

Professional nude photographer Vicki Young, from Fletchers Fotographics, may be roped in to catch all the action on film.

Despite what you think, this is not the start of a new business in nyotai mori (Japanese practice of eating raw fish off the body of a naked woman). But rather, playful snippets from the Yamba Chamber of Commerce's brainstorming session for its latest saucy project ? a nudie calender.

At this week's meeting, chamber members proposed the idea of creating a tasteful nude calendar that would showcase the wares of local businesses and feature their partially-clothed owners.

Chamber president Sue Hughes said the idea surfaced at last year's chamber Christmas party.

"It would be a really good opportunity to get Yamba on the map again and for businesses to showcase their wares."

As yet, the project is only in its infancy with members still to decide on the release date, budgetary and advertising issues.

But already there are some positive spin-offs afoot.

"We talked about the idea of businesses paying to appear in a calendar, so they would be generating money, plus the sale of the calendar could all go to a community project," Ms Hughes said.

Chamber member Sue Schmolke suggested the profits go towards a youth initiative.

Fellow member Denise Patten, of Abmay Designs, suggested iconic landscapes in Yamba and surrounding areas be used as backdrops with 'a nude chucked in' to boost the town's profile.

The initiative will be discussed at the chamber's executive meeting in a fortnight.
