Clarence connection to Lismore's day of league

YAMBA teenager Byron Aitken is eagerly awaiting the chance to run out on the same ground as the NRL stars in a preliminary game before tonight's Parramatta-Cronulla trial game at Oakes Oval, Lismore.

Aitken, 15, has been selected as hooker for the Country Rugby League Northern Rivers Under-15 side to play against Palm Beach Academy of Sporting Excellence in the opening game of the day at 1pm.

League officials are expecting a crowd upwards of 6000 for the day-night matches.

"Byron is really looking forward to the game and the chance to see the Parramatta-Cronulla game," Aitken's mother, Jane, said.

The Year 10 Maclean High School student and Lower Clarence Magpies Under-16 player has already attained numerous representative honours and has a bright future in rugby league.

Recently he was selected from a big pool of talented players from the Northern and Southern divisions to join the Gold Coast Dolphins Academy squad under experienced former NRL player, Scott Sattler.

The Gold Coast Dolphins are in the running to join the NRL within the next 24 months.
