A 29-YEAR-OLD man was killed and two young Clarence Valley residents injured after their cars collided at Coutts Crossing on Thursday night.

The 29-year-old, who died at the scene, is thought to have been a Coutts Crossing local.

The two-vehicle collision involved a Toyota Corolla, driven by the 29-year-old, and a Holden Commodore, driven by a 17-year-old South Grafton man. The accident happened at around 10.20pm at the intersection of Goulds and Armidale roads.

A police spokesman said the crash appeared to have been caused by the 29-year-old crossing onto the wrong side of the road.

"The 29-year-old, who was driving west on Armidale Road, crossed over the lines and into the path of the other car for reasons unknown," the spokesman said.

"The accident was found by a passing vehicle, who then contacted police."

The 17-year-old and his 15-year-old female passenger were taken to Grafton Base Hospital with minor injuries.

The police spokesman said the accident was being investigated by Grafton police and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
