Exhibition promotes the elegant, unusual

ART lovers have the opportunity to see the bold and the beautiful at the 15th Regional Exhibition of Excellence in Grafton.
The exhibition displays an array of dynamic works by local and visiting artists, and according to organiser Shirley Adams, this year's array has some real surprises on offer.
Alongside the work of prominent local artists there are some unorthodox offerings by craftspeople and artists new to the exhibition.
Mrs Adams said there were a number of interesting stories behind the art works at the exhibition, describing the range as vast and exciting.
"We have some really different pieces here this year like Ross Bailey's The World Map and Peter Wade's Tall Poppy Cutters," Mrs Adams said.
"The World Map is a 9000piece jigsaw puzzle that took Mr Bailey two years to complete and it really is a beautiful piece."
One of this year's new artists is Donald Powell, a wood carver from Maleny in Queensland.
His displayed works include an ornate caricature carving depicting a scene from the Lord of the Rings, and representation of the Greek mythological tale Pandora's Box.
Mr Powell said the exhibi- tion of excellence was a great opportunity for people to appreciate the work of Australian artists and that it provided a chance for artists to gain exposure within the community.
Check out the work of Donald Powell and a number of other talented artists at the Regional Exhibition of Excellence at the Grafton Civic Centre. The exhibition will be run until Wednesday, January 26, from 9am to 4pm daily.
