FOR the first occasion this season his batting may have faltered but star all-rounder Andrew Firth recorded season best Premier League bowling figures when he took 7-57 in the Westlawn Crown Hotel versus GI Hotel Tucabia-Copmanhurst at Ellem Oval on Saturday.

The match remains evenly poised after the opening day of the twoday game.

Tucabia managed a moderate first innings total of 142, Rohan Hackett taking 3-41, and at the close of play had Westlawn 6-91.

Tucabia openers Graeme Egan (22) and Matt Blanch (24) got their team off to a solid start and first drop Brad Lloyd (27) followed suit but it was only a rear-guard action by Trent Dickson (25) and Daniel Cootes that gave the total some respectability.

Firth captured the first seven wickets to fall bowling 18 overs on the day.

Westlawn's run chase faltered early with Daniel Amos dismissed for 11 off Aaron Amos.

Young gun Brendan Purser managed to hold the side together compiling a fine 35 in difficult conditions to top score for his side.

Firth, who has netted a score sheet full of runs so far this season including a century, was caught by Tucabia captain Damien Rouse off Amos's bowling for just five.

Simon Wilson (12) and Ken Wilson (17) both fell lbw to Trent Dickson. Dickson also snared Westlawn skipper Tony Blanch for five.

Jason Chevalley remains not out two.
