From the Magpies Nest

GREAT news for the Magpies is the selection of Daine Laurie into the NRRRL team, the only Clarence Valley player selected.

nTHIS Sunday the Magpies play host to the Mullumbimby Giants in all three grades.

This will be the first home game for the Magpies this season and what a way to start with a top-of-the-table clash.

nTHE Under-18s will kick off at noon and there will be plenty of action as the new look local juniors attempt to make it two on the trot.

Last game for the young Magpies was a great win over South Grafton Rebels 24 to 22.

Coach Tony Wiseman will be keen to keep the team focus on discipline and ball control.

nRESERVE grade coach Shane Eamens has the good fortune of all players pushing for a first grade positions.

Shane said "all I am looking for is commitment for the full 70 minutes.

"We have plenty of attacking flair, but as we all know, good strong defence will win you the game every time.

"We have to forget about our last win when we thrashed the Rebels 82 to 4 and try to perform well in front of our home supporters."

nFIRST grade will be action plus with the Magpies desperate to take the form from the first match of the season, where the Magpies defeated the Mustangs at Murwillumbah, 30 to 22 into this Sunday's game.

Captain coach Jason (China) Wilkinson said "we had a great win in the first game, but for us this one means more.

"This is our first home game and we really want to perform well for our home supporters.

"We have strong players in Reserve grade, means every player will be playing for a number in first grade."

Game day sponsor is Home Hardware Maclean. Nick and his Home Hardware team are excited about the coming season and are delighted to be one of the Magpies sponsors.

Game Day this Sunday is at the Maclean Showground with Under-18s kicking off at noon.

Full canteen and bar facilities will be available. The gate opens at 11am.

Admission will be $6 with no concessions, and Under-16s are free.
