Games mail campaign

AUSTRALIAN men's hockey captain Brent Livermore will be in Grafton today to promote a letter-writing campaign to support Australia's Commonwealth Game athletes.

Grafton born-and-bred Livermore has been named as one of four Letter Link ambassadors promoting the Australia Post campaign.

The program is targeted at primary and secondary school children, encouraging them to write inspirational letters to Australian athletes competing at the Games.

The other ambassadors are: Giaan Rooney (swimming), Loudy Tourky (diving) and Joshua Ross (athletics).

Australia Post media officer Nicola Archer said over the past decade Letter Link has been embraced by schools across the country to improve literacy skills and as an incentive for primary school children to practice the art of letter writing.

And it's proved popular with the athletes over the years.

"It's great getting our Letter Link letters," said Livermore.

"The kids write fantastic messages and the whole team gets very excited when the Postie delivers the fan mail in the Village each day."

Australia Post has targeted the campaign at school children, but it's open to people of any age who want to support the Australian team.
