GHS boys and girls into State hockey finals

GRAFTON High School boys and girls hockey teams have won through to the finals of the NSW CHS Knockout Hockey competition.

Yesterday at the Brent Livermore Field, Grafton, the boys team smashed Lisarow High (Metropolitan North Zone) 10-nil to make the final eight.

The girls team won through after Warners Bay (Hunter Zone) forfeited.

Grafton, with all members A grade players in the local men's competition, had far too much firepower across the field for Lisarow High throughout the match.

State Under-18 player Nick Russ and State CHS player Josh Wainwright were the star performers with four and three goals respectively.

Grafton were unlucky not to stretch the scoreline with several shots saved by the Lisarow keeper.

The girls team, who were runner-up in the A grade local women's competition, are also expecting good results in the finals series.

Grafton High have previously been silver medalists in the state-wide knockout and the boys team have won the title on four occasions.

The finals will be conducted at Moorebank, Sydney, on September 14 and 15.
