Golfer?s pennants dream goes pear-shaped

By Tony White

"Everything was going great until yesterday (Sunday)," lamented Maclean golf star Luke Henwood.

Henwood's dream of playing in the State Pennants final was shattered when his new team Moore Park was beaten by The Australian 4-1/2 to 2-1/2 in a semi-final at the tough NSW Golf Course in Sydney.

The multiple North Coast course record holder elected to join Moore Park this year in a bid to improve his overall golf and represent the leading club in pennants.

"Personally, I had a very ordinary day, it was upsetting for all of us to lose as we were all looking forward to playing in the final," Henwood said.

The Moore Park team is made up of a number of well known North Coast players including Logan Toms (Woolgoolga), Jason Barby (Coffs Harbour), Greg McMillan (Muswellbrook), Fraser Brown (United Kingdom), Troy Cox (Lithgow), Grant Scott (Nelsons Bay) and Moore Park locals Trevor Sidley and Craig Johnson.

Henwood had been driving to Sydney and returning to his Maclean home each weekend to play pennants for Moore Park.

On Saturday fortnight Henwood will tackle picturesque Bonville Golf Course at Coffs Harbour for the first occasion in the Bonville Cup.
