GRAFTON baseballer Mitch Morgan starred for the Gold Coast Sand Dogs, winners of the National Regional Youth Baseball Championships in Lismore.

In a tough final that went into overtime, Morgan who pitched, was instrumental in the Gold Coast overcoming Newcastle 7-6 in the final.

The Gold Coast team went through the 8-day tournament undefeated.

Fifteen-year-old Morgan was rated one of the best Gold Coast players throughout the event as a pitcher and batter.

"He had a no hitter innings when he pitched in the final and was a pivotal player in the winning team," Morgan's mother Sally said.

"He was very happy at the result.

"In batting he hit four triples, a couple of doubles and singles during the tournament."

The South Grafton High Year 11 student has been invited to join a Gold Coast composite team on a 7-match tour of America in June.
