Grand finals looming- womens hockey

ONLY two more sleeps to go before the Westlawn Finance hockey grand finals ? a day that promises more action than Arnie, both on and off the field.

It sees the culmination of a 36-team competition with finals being played in five grades.

Spectators are advised to get there early to secure a good seat on the hill.

It all commences at 9.30am with the C Grade clash between McAuley Gold and Mixtures. McAuley had the upper hand in the semi-finals, but the Mixtures outfit are as keen as cucumbers to turn that around on the day.

nHAVE you ever wondered why Ned Kelly was always so angry ? really bad hair days.

nTHE B grade encounter between Sailors Hawks and Kylies Kasuals, commencing at 10.50am, might boil down to which team wants it most on the day. Sailors recorded some wins over the Kasuals during the season, but Kylies came back in the semis with a win to get through.

Barbarians and Demons Scotts will take up the challenge in AR2, with Demons slight favourites, having recorded a 3-1 victory over Barbs in the recent semis. Conditions on the day may play a part in the result of this one.

The AR1 clash has the strong Westlawn team taking on the McAuley White young guns.

This encounter is the youth and fitness of the McAuley girls pitted against the stability and experience of the Westlawn combination.

Westlawn have traditionally performed well in this grade and some bets may be on for a Westlawn win.

IF you photocopy a picture of your watch, will you have time to spare?

A TIGHTER than Tina Turner's tank top tussle is expected in A grade with Grafton High Blues taking on minor premiers, Video Ezy. With play commencing at 5.40pm, a fast and entertaining game is expected.

Video Ezy recorded a 2-1 win over the Grafton girls recently, but with the Grafton High outfit's recent successful experience in their CHS competition they might have the motivation to produce an upset.

The game is expected to be a real showcase of hockey talent we currently have in Grafton.

nSPECTATORS are reminded that no alcohol is to be brought to the fields on grand final day. Alcohol may be purchased at the venue.

CLUBS are expected to assist with catering on the day and the roster is as follows: 9.30am Avros, 10.50am South Services, 12.10pm Baileys, 1.30pm Grafton Services, 2.50pm Albion Angels, 4.10pm Sailors, 5.30pm Demons, 7pm Kylies. The High School clubs are expected to assist with the barbecue.

WHAT happens if you ask for a cheque in the Czech Republic?

THE Vets carnival dates for 2006 have changed to August 11-13, with the event still being held in Taree.

Last week's column didn't get to print -? apologies to any readers out there. How do you keep a reader in suspense? We'll tell you next week....

IF you're interested in competing in the Dragon Boat Race in October, please see Bruce Carle.

nKYLIES have an association meeting tomorrow commencing at 5.30pm at the Grafton Hotel. OUR sponsors this week are Metaland and Boral Concrete. Make a new friend with your Metaland mate, Mike and then team up with Dave from Boral for some cute concreting.

Good luck to all teams playing the Grand Finals. Do yourself a favour; go and check it out and be part of it.

Happy hockey.
