Hall in Queensland under 23 golf squad

By TONY WHITE

FORMER Grafton junior golf champion Peter Hall has been selected in a seven man squad to represent Queensland in the inter-state under-23 series in September.

Hall, 18, is currently on a scholarship with the Queensland Academy of Sport.

The squad will be whittled down to five players to represent in team matches and Hall's recent encouraging form stands him in good stead to make his mark in the prestigious team even.

If he does, he will join the likes of other Grafton golfers, Peter Langham, John Bennetts and Paul Sanders who have made State teams.

Recently Hall finished in the top 30 players at the Belmont International, Newcastle, against the best young golfers in Australia and more than 30 players from overseas countries including England, America, Wales, Japan and New Zealand.

Hall captained the seven-man QAS squad at the International ? two players missed the cut (three over 147), two finished in the top ten and Hall and two others were in the top 30.

The event was won by Victorian Marc Leishman who shot 268 over four rounds (66-67-67-68), the equal lowest score in the tournament's history.

Hall's next major assignment is the Australian Amateur Titles at Royal Melbourne next month.
